A US financial regulator said that a bank insider withdrew a huge amount of cash from an elderly person’s account without the customer’s consent.
Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) He says Marissa Murillo committed the crime over a two-year period while working as an associate banker at the Bank of Montreal’s Chicago branch.
“During the period from January 2023 to November 2024, the Defendant made unauthorized debits from an elderly customer’s account for her personal use and the use of her family members.
As a result of the defendant’s misconduct, the bank suffered a loss of $164,918.
Because of Murillo’s alleged actions, the OCC says it is barring the former Bank of Montreal associate banker from participating “in any way in the conduct” of the affairs of federally insured banks and other financial institutions regulated by federal banking agencies for an indefinite period.
“By reason of the conduct in question, the defendant violated the law, resulting in financial gain to the defendant and financial loss to the bank, and involved personal breach of trust.”
Murillo agreed to the ban without denying or admitting any wrongdoing.
