California YouTube TV subscribers who were subject to automatic renewals are poised to take a share in a multimillion-dollar settlement addressing allegations that the service failed to follow state disclosure rules.
Google LLC and YouTube LLC agreed to the proposed settlement of $7.5 million solution Allegations of failure to fully comply with California’s automatic renewal law.
The lawsuit was triggered by the companies’ failure to provide required disclosures for YouTube TV auto-renewal subscription sales
The complaint alleges that the violations occurred through YouTube billing for subscriptions that were renewed between February 1, 2017, and October 29, 2021, while the class members were living in California.
Excluded from the settlement were subscribers who paid for YouTube TV through iOS-based mobile apps from the Apple App Store, YouTube TV subscriptions that were canceled during a free trial period, and YouTube TV subscriptions that were fully refunded.
Eligible Class Members who are enrolled and paid for at least one renewal term during that period may receive an estimated $92.26 on a pro-rata basis.
Claims must be submitted by August 30, 2026, and a final approval hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026. Those who wish to exclude themselves from the settlement may do so by 11:59 PM PT on or before August 30, 2026.
Payments will be released approximately 105 days after final approval.
Google and YouTube deny the allegations, but have agreed to settle the claims “to avoid burdensome and expensive lawsuits.”
