For many people, moving abroad is often associated with better salaries or better career opportunities. But for an Indian couple, the decision to move to Thailand was driven by something much simpler: improving the quality of daily life.
Shreya and Amit, an Indian couple who recently shared their experience on social media, said their move was not about leaving India behind, but about finding a more balanced and comfortable lifestyle.
In an Instagram post, the couple addressed the question they’re often asked: “Why did you move to Thailand?”
“India will always be our home. But after spending some time in Thailand, we realized that the quality of our daily lives has become better,” they wrote.
Similar rent, different lifestyle
According to the couple, the cost of renting a house in Thailand is similar to what they would pay in many tier-one Indian cities. The difference, they said, lies in the daily experience.
They explained that after living in Thailand, they began to appreciate the slower pace of life. Despite the lack of some of the amenities available in India, they believe the trade-off is worth it.
“Most interactions seem more human.”
For Shreya, one of the most noticeable changes has been the way people interact with each other.
“People are kind, strangers smile, keep doors open, and respect personal space,” she wrote. “Most interactions feel less transactional and more human. As a woman, coming home late at night doesn’t feel like a risk-assessment exercise. I don’t find myself constantly in a state of hypervigilance.”
The luxury of having more time
The couple also highlighted what they described as the biggest benefit of this step, which is having more time.
“And perhaps the biggest one: time. Life never seems to escape the hustle and bustle. Less time commuting. More time walking. More time working from coffee shops. More time together,” they said.
The post was accompanied by a video showing glimpses of their lives in Thailand, including visits to local cafes and neighborhoods.

“People often only focus on the salary, but having more time for yourself is a luxury too,” another user noted.

However, not everyone agreed. One user noted that each country faces its own challenges and that experiences can vary depending on personal circumstances.
