Color flags are now available across both Governor and sortGiving you a faster way to select stocks, filter lists, and organize your trading ideas across two of Finviz’s most powerful tools.
Reporting and filtering of stocks in each portfolio
All Finviz wallets now support Color Flags, giving you a faster way to categorize ticks and filter your holdings by one color or multiple colors at once.
To get started, open your wallet and hover over the far left edge of any bar to set the color marker. From there, you can organize your holdings according to the workflow that works best for you.

Each stock added to your portfolio can now be assigned to one of six flag colors:
- red
- green
- orange
- yellow
- blue
- purple
Flags can be changed at any time and filtered using the New Flags drop-down menu. This makes it easy to organize positions, watchlists, strategies and research ideas especially in portfolios with 25 or more stocks and ETFs.
Once you assign flags to the stocks in your portfolio, select the Flags drop-down menu at the top right of the portfolio to filter by a single color or any combination of colors. In this screenshot, we’ve filtered our portfolio to include only the stocks marked with a red flag:
Stock reporting and screening
Any tag you apply to the portfolio now appears in the sorter, and any tag you apply to the sorter now appears in your portfolios. This gives you a consistent system for tracking stocks across both tools. Here’s a three-step process to explain how this works:
Step 1: Screen for stocks using Finviz Screener.
Step 2: Mark different indicators based on your criteria.
Step 3: Add the selected indices to the portfolio.
Result: These indicators will automatically appear with the same tags within your Finviz wallet. It also works in reverse. Mark an indicator in your portfolio, turn on the screen, and when that indicator appears in the results, you will see its flag immediately.
This makes each screen more useful by showing stocks you’ve already reviewed, that are part of your current workflow, and how you previously rated them.
Use tagged lists as a starting point for the sorting tool
You can also start with a set of arrows you’ve already tagged and use that list as the starting world for your next screen.
For example, you can create a tagged list of the best-performing stocks from several major indexes. You can then open this set of tags in the sorter and do the following:
- Apply additional filters
- Recount the results
- Add technical or fundamental signals
- Narrow the list to stocks matching your specific trading setup
- Identify the strongest opportunities under current market conditions
The workflow becomes:
Create a preferred universe ← Monitor that universe ← Apply existing signals ← Find the best opportunities now
Instead of searching the entire market every time, you can focus on stocks that you already follow, understand, or prefer to trade. In the screenshot below, we have opened our sorter and sorted all the stocks by largest market cap. The same tags from our portfolio appear here to remind us which stocks have been added and flagged:
Filter sorting results by flags
Scan hundreds of stocks, flag important ones, and then instantly narrow down the entire scan to just those names you’ve flagged. This allows you to work across different screens while always keeping a specific list of stocks marked with a specific color.
Less noise. Cleanliness lists. Faster follow up.
To get started, open Screener Results and use the marker control near the upper-right corner of the results table. From there, select the flag color or color combination you want to use. In this screenshot, we’ve selected all the colors of the flag:
What makes Finviz color flags different?
Many platforms treat Flags as a simple rating system. Finviz takes them further by making them an active part of the screening and discovery process including seamless interconnection with your wallet. Here are two capabilities that make Finviz workflow particularly powerful.
1. Scan multiple tag sets at the same time
Finviz allows you to combine multiple tag sets within the sorter. For example, you can select both red and blue flag stocks and examine them together as a single indicator world.
This means you don’t need to open each tag list separately and apply the same filters, flags, or sorting rules repeatedly. You can combine and analyze multiple favorite collections at once and move through your workflow faster.
This is a huge advantage over platforms like TradingView, which currently do not allow users to combine multiple tick lists as a single sorting world.
2. Discover new stocks using the unmarked option
Finviz also allows you to scan specifically Without a mark Tapes. When you use similar trading signals repeatedly, the screener results may include many stocks that you have already identified, reviewed or rated.
to choose Without a mark It removes those familiar names and displays only stocks that match your criteria but have not yet been added to any of your tag sets.
This helps you:
- Discover truly new opportunities
- Expand your existing trading universe
- Avoid repeatedly reviewing the same stocks
- Separate new ideas from previously analyzed names
- Build your watchlists and continually improve them
No other platform currently offers the ability to examine unmarked indicators specifically. You can see here that we only selected “Untag”:
Build a flag system that works for you
Since Color Flags works across both portfolios and screeners, you can use them to create your own custom stock classification system. The choice is completely yours and here’s the system we took as inspiration:
- Blue flags: Long-term holdings
- Yellow flags: Active business ideas
- Green flags: Names with high conviction
- Red flags: Risk concerns
- Orange flags: Earnings or event-based settings
- Purple flags: Stocks that require additional research
Again, the categories are completely up to you.
