Tullow Livestock Sales held their weekly sheep trade at Tullow Mart, Co. Carlow, on Tuesday (14 July) as 1,500 sheep passed through the ring, with the trade price continuing to be positive.
Sale sent to Agriland Described as “tremendous” as the lamb trade saw higher numbers than previous weeks.
Butcher type lambweighing between 48 kg and 54 kg, are sold for 200-233 euros per lamb, noting that the “meat” of lambs receives great interest from buyers.
The “heavier” sheep were met with strong demand at the sale.
This comes against the backdrop of factories announcing that sheep prices will stabilize at around €9.00/kg during the week.
This will undoubtedly be welcome news, as recent cuts have raised concerns that trade is starting to slow after strong spring and early summer trade.
Factory sheepweighing between 47kg and 50kg on the day of sale, are sold at €190-268/lamb.
This is a significant increase from the highest price in the commercial sale last week of 202 euros per head, and an indicator of the level of demand from factory agents and wholesalers.
Storing lambsIt weighs 39-42 kg and is sold at a price ranging between 150 and 170 euros per sheep. Lighter type store lambs range in weight from 35kg to 39kg and sell for €120-140 per head.
24 lambs, each weighing an average of 41 kg, sold for €157 per head, equivalent to €3.83 per kg.
Ewes at Tullow
He sheds ewes Lighter feeders saw prices range from €188 to €226 per head, with the highest price up from last week’s price of €200.
Feeder type ewes saw a top price of €279 per head with trade holding steady for these ewes.
- 10 cast ewes, each weighing an average of 94kg, sold for €279 per head or €2.97 per kilogram;
- 18 cast ewes, each averaging 84kg, sold for €228 per head or €2.71 per kilogram;
- Three cast ewes, each averaging 91kg, sold for €346 per head or €3.80 per kilogram.
the Raising ewes The trade saw pigs fetch €270 to €370 a head. Hoggets also saw increases in trade compared to last week.
Old ewes It sold for 250-290 euros per head without any significant change From last week’s trading.
