Commodity Futures Trading Commission consent Kalshi’s BTCPERP was held on May 29, 2026, resulting in the issuance of a Consent Order to KalshiEX, LLC pursuant to Commission Regulation 40.3. The contract references the spot price of Bitcoin and does not carry an expiration date, making it a structural departure from every futures product the U.S. has previously approved.
CEO of Kalshi Company, Tariq Mansour He said CNBC’s Squawk on the Street, which calls the standings “the purest form of trading,” frames the launch as the company’s evolution from a prediction market leader into a full-service derivatives exchange. “Local, safe and regulated companies will improve capital allocation and risk management for countless American companies,” Mansour said.
The size of the market makes the opening important. The volume of overseas perpetual futures contracts receipt $92.9 trillion in 2025, exceeding spot cryptocurrency markets and representing a product category that was never accessible to US institutions.
This capital has flowed to offshore venues like Binance and Hyperliquid, beyond the reach of US regulators. Reuters data puts Perpetual futures volume in 2025 will reach $61.7 trillion, up 29% from 2024.
Perpetual futures contracts operate through a funding rate mechanism. Instead of settling on a specific date, the contract remains open indefinitely, and the funding rate – which is adjusted every eight hours – keeps the contract price tied to the underlying spot market.

America as the crypto capital of the world
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig, appointed by President Trump, signaled the policy shift in March 2026, telling the Milken Institute that U.S.-listed perpetual futures would come “in the next month or so.”
He called his statement, along with Calci’s approval, “a huge step forward in achieving President Trump’s goal of establishing America as the cryptocurrency capital of the world.”
Kalshi, which is valued at $22 billion after a May 2026 funding round, plans to expand its perpetual coins to more than a dozen cryptocurrencies pending further regulatory reviews. Agricultural goods are excluded from the list of products.
The competition moves quickly. Kraken Announce It plans to list those regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) within 30 days of approval by Calci, which covers Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Robinhood and Gemini have also indicated intentions to enter the space. The CFTC said it will evaluate additional perpetual contracts on a case-by-case basis.
