A tractor driver has been charged for alleged ‘dangerous driving’ in Whitegate

A young man is due to appear in court in Cork later this week charged with dangerous driving and other traffic offenses while driving a tractor in Whitegate.

A man driving a tractor and slurry tanker has been arrested for alleged dangerous driving in Whitegate in Cork over the weekend, gardaí said.

Shortly after 2:00pm on Saturday (April 11), police said they observed a group of tractors and a slurry tank approaching a cordon checkpoint on the approach to Whitegate, Co. Cork.

It is alleged that the vehicle did not stop at the checkpoint when ordered to do so by members of An Garda Síochána.

Gardaí then followed the tractor group, activating blue emergency lights and sirens “to signal the vehicle to stop and warn other road users”.

According to police, the tractor began moving erratically and swerved in the opposite direction in an attempt to get away from police and potentially endanger other road users.

The vehicle was stopped by uniformed and plainclothes guards in marked and unmarked patrol cars.

The driver, a man in his twenties, was arrested and charged with committing a number of serious traffic violations.

He is due to appear at Middleton District Court in Cork City on Thursday morning (April 16).
