A Suffolk ewe born in January 2026 and bred on a farm in Co Cavan recently sold for £4,000.
The lamb was sold through a select online auction at the third annual Sheep Breeders Choice Summer Sale.
The auction set by MartEye ran from Saturday, July 4th to Monday, July 6th.
The sale included offspring from the following four herds:
- Kilduff: James Dunne, Co. Cavan;
- Strong: Philip Crowe, Co. Cavan;
- Erne Valley: Eddie Lynch, Co. Cavan;
- Cracking the Blues: Declan McCaffrey, Co. Monaghan.
The sale was conducted using the British Pound as the chosen currency, and the exchange rate during the sale remained at 1 EUR = 0.86 GBP.
The sale saw 26 sheep of “high genetic merit” offered, along with lambs, rams, ewes and sheep.
talking to Agriland After sales, James Dunn, of Kilduff breed of cattleHe described the trade as “tremendous” and added that the online aspect “has expanded the opportunities from the buyer’s perspective.”
Agriland He also spoke to Philip Crowe, the powerful herd owner, who was very happy with the sale.
He pointed out that the offers submitted by the United Kingdom, France, and even Italy for the breed offered at the auction indicate the level of demand and quality offered.
The joint top price for a ram lamb on the day went to Powerful Kangaroo ETBlue Texel, born on February 1, sold for £1,600. The lamb was sired by Hurricane Harley Davidson and his dam is Gerard Mason B944463115.
The Powerful Kangaroo ET is described as having “exceptionally tight skin, enormous body length, and extremely powerful muscles.”

Earnivale Endgame It also brought in £1,600. He is a Suffolk lamb born on January 1st. He was sired by Richhill Dominator and his dam is Ballynacannon KKW2302068.
Ernevalley Endgame is described as having “a corpse, skin, silky black hair, and a thumper’s head.”
Other rams sold online include Kickass strong and The crankshaft is strong For £1,000 and £1,100 respectively. They both carried blue Texel rams.

It was the category of lambs that fetched the highest price for sale online Kilduff Electra Securing the highest price of £4,000.
This Suffolk ewe was born on February 1, and is by Cherrylea Dark Destroyer. Her dam is Kilduff JZS2301264.
The Kilduff Electra is described as having “exceptional size and style” and “as big as a Beamer”.
Dunne added that this was a sign of the demand for modern Suffolks here and in the UK.
Other notable sales included a payment of £2,900 Kilduff eleganceanother Suffolk ewe sired by Cherrylea Dark Destroyer.
Kilduff Ebony sold for £1,400 by the same sire. The Kilduff Electic and Kilduff Eternity each sold for £1,200.

The shearling gimmer trade saw a top price of £1,850 Arnvalli daffodilSuffolk, born 3 January 2025, sired by Limestone Risler, and sired to dam Craigdoo PNZ2200791.
Ernevalley Daffodil is described as “an enormous body with a superhuman head”.
Ernevalley Daffodil sold for £1,850.
Other shearling sales included a Suffolk Ernevale Dakota ewe selling for £1,000.

This is the third annual Sheep Breeders’ Choice Summer Sale and Dunne described it as “going from strength to strength”.
