How real is the quantum threat?

new plate It was officially announced that it will be held in Bitcoin 2026 Titled “How Real Is the Quantum Threat?” The conversation will bring together five voices at the heart of one of Bitcoin’s most controversial technical questions today, and the lineup reflects the full range of perspectives the topic requires.

Panel features:

Monster Huntera senior protocol engineer at the MARA-incubated Anduro Sidechain platform, is the co-author of BIP 360, a proposal that creates a new Bitcoin wallet address type designed to protect the network from quantum computing threats. BIP 360 was integrated into the Bitcoin Core BIP repository in February 2026 and was deployed on Bitcoin Quantum Testnet v0.3.0 in March, marking significant progress towards Bitcoin’s upgrade.

James O’Byrne He has been a Bitcoin Core contributor since 2015 and leads several projects including OP_VAULT (BIP-345) and sumutxo, having previously worked at Chaincode Labs.

Brandon Black He is a Bitcoin software engineer who has spoken publicly about why the broader market misunderstands quantum computing timelines.

Charles Edwards Capriol argued that quantum computing is advancing faster than expected and called for a BIP-360 implementation for 2026.

Alex ThorneGalaxy Digital’s head of research took a more measured stance, saying that the quantum threat to Bitcoin is real but limited today, affecting only some exposed wallets, and that developers are actively building paths to address it over time.

The panel will cover one of the most discussed technical topics in Bitcoin today – how quantum computing is evolving, where Bitcoin cryptography stands, and what the path to long-term protocol resilience looks like. Developers are already working on multiple solutions, including quantum-resistant titles and phased upgrade proposals, and this panel brings together some of the brightest minds working on these upgrades. It will be held on April 29 at the Nakamoto Theater at Bitcoin 2026, The Venetian Resort, Las Vegas.
