A Pennsylvania man has admitted to draining millions of dollars from people’s bank accounts in a massive fraud scheme.
According to To Pennsylvania Attorney General Jeremy Antoine Boria Fraticelli, 23, along with his accomplices defrauded banks and their customers of more than $3 million in three counties in the Keystone State.
Fraticelli and his accomplices relied on a strategy of posing as bank customer service representatives and tricking lender customers into giving them their personally identifiable information.
The sensitive information was then used to make withdrawals from victims’ accounts. The money was then deposited into accounts controlled by Fraticelli and his associates.
According to the prosecutor, the gang’s scheme “defrauded numerous unsuspecting Pennsylvanians who believed they were speaking with individuals they were trying to protect.”
Fraticelli was sentenced to nearly two years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of identity theft and property theft. He was also commanded to make his victims perfect.
“This week, he was sentenced to a year (minus one day) to 23 months in prison, followed by five years of probation, and ordered to pay more than $537,000 in restitution.”
Besides Fraticelli, 23 other people or co-conspirators were charged with impersonating bank customer service representatives to obtain their personal information. Fourteen of them have pleaded guilty, while nine cases are still pending.
