2,000 baby bulls depart for Algeria from the port of Bellevue

A shipment of about 2,000 baby bulls sailed from Bellevue Port in County Waterford this week bound for Algeria.

The cattle consignment also included approximately 75 Holstein pedigree heifers, assembled by Midlands-based cattle company Cows.ie, owned by David Clarke.

talking to Agriland Clark said the bulls weigh about 400 kilograms and are all sucklers.

The bulls are predominantly ‘U’ grade cattle with some ‘E’ and ‘R’ grades also included and are all sourced from markets and from small farmers throughout Ireland.

The cattle will be transported on board the MV Alondra livestock ship, and Clarke said he hoped to receive orders for cattle of the same type as well as weanlings in the future.

He added: “A huge thank you to the farm teams, transport drivers, veterinarians, handlers and staff at the Port of Bellevue for another safe, efficient and high-quality load.

“There continues to be a strong demand for Irish genetics and breeding internationally.

“Exporting quality livestock supports farms, rural jobs and the wider agri-food supply chain here in Ireland.”
