“I’m a golden person,” Trump says.

Despite the ongoing war in the Middle East that has sent gold prices plummeting, US President Donald Trump has been vocal about the metal’s enduring appeal.

“I’m a golden person. These are all real things,” he said at a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, his first since the strike on Iran more than three weeks ago.

The president also added an element of humor when talking about the rarity of the metal and whether it can be replicated. “One day, they’ll discover a paint that looks like gold, and the guy will become the richest man in the world,” he joked.

Trump’s speech comes amid plans to stamp his face on a 24-carat coin to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States’ birth. Last week, the Federal Arts Commission approved the final design for the coin.

On Friday, gold prices rose as much as 3% to more than $4,550 an ounce. Tracking towards its first weekly gains Since the Middle East war.
