The event will start at 7:00 PM. On the farm of Nigel Donaldson and his family located at Annyalla, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan (postcode: A75 PR99).
Nigel is a dairy farmer and farms with the help of his three sons.
The plots on the farm are fragmented and there are about 40 dairy cows and 20 lactating cows on the farm. All beef breeds on the farm are passed down to beef and replacements are produced on the farm as well.
The farm is a participant in the ABP Food Group Beef Advantage Program It is also an Irish producer of Hereford Prime.
Hereford genetics are strong on the farm and form a key part of the lactation project on the farm as well.
talking to Agriland Prior to the event, ABP Farm Liaison Sean Cassidy explained some of the key aspects that will be discussed at the event.
“We will look at the herd itself, the genetics used on the farm and the impact that has on the commercial beef value (CBV) of the calves produced,” he said.
“We will hear the latest updates on the Irish Hereford Prime programme Restructuring rewards Plus how the breed produced on the farm qualifies for the Advantage Beef Program Sustainability Bonus.”
In addition, there will be discussions and advice on best practices when raising calves and management tips and advice for both beef and suckler farmers.
Grassland reseeding and water quality will also be discussed, with opportunities for farmers to have their questions answered about reseeding and other topics at the event.
There will be speakers from the Irish Livestock Breeding Federation (ICBF), Animal Health Ireland (AHI) and Bord Bia.
The event is supported by SuperValu and there will be a Signature Tastes Hereford Prime burger served to all attendees.
