  • Google will allow advertisers to apply for several cryptocurrency-related advertising certifications directly within Google Ads starting in May 2026.
  • This change affects cryptocurrency exchanges, software wallets, hardware wallets, cryptocurrency funds, and complex financial speculative products.

Google is changing how advertisers apply for many cryptocurrency-related ad certifications, moving the process directly to Google Ads accounts.

As query function I mentionedThe update applies to certificates of cryptocurrency exchanges, software wallets, cryptocurrency hardware wallets, cryptocurrency trusts, and complex financial speculative products.

According to the Google Advertising Policy update, advertisers will be able to apply for these certifications from within their Google Ads accounts starting in May 2026. Google says advertisers will no longer be able to apply for certifications listed through the Google Ads Help Center.

Existing crypto certificates will not be affected

Google stated that existing certificates and pending applications will not be affected by the change. This means that already approved advertisers do not need to re-apply due to the new application process.

Modernization is basically a change in process. Instead of handling the request through the Help Center, eligible advertisers will manage the approval process from the same Google Ads account they use to run campaigns.

Affected groups include:

  • Cryptocurrency exchanges and software wallets
  • Cryptocurrency hardware wallets
  • Cryptocurrency funds
  • Complex financial speculative products

Cryptocurrency ads remain restricted on Google

This change does not mean that Google is opening up cryptocurrency advertising more widely.

Google’s cryptocurrency advertising policy still requires some cryptocurrency companies to meet local legal requirements and obtain certification before running ads. This applies to areas such as cryptocurrency exchanges, software wallets, hardware wallets, and cryptocurrency funds on approved markets.

Google also continues to ban several types of cryptocurrency-related advertising. Advertisements for ICOs, DeFi trading protocols, or promotions to buy, sell, or trade cryptocurrencies or related products are not permitted under this policy.

The company also prohibits ad destinations that combine or compare crypto issuers or related products. Google lists examples such as cryptocurrency trading signals, cryptocurrency investment tips, aggregators, affiliate sites, and broker reviews.

What advertisers should know about cryptocurrencies

For regulated cryptocurrency companies, the update could make the approval process easier to manage because apps will be linked directly to your Google Ads account.

However, cryptocurrency advertisers will still need to check whether their product category is eligible, whether their target countries have been approved and whether their landing pages comply with Google policy.

The key point is simple: Google is simplifying the application process, but cryptocurrency ads on Google remain limited to approved companies and compatible product categories.
