  • MoonPay has launched the ChatGPT app that allows users to create cryptocurrency purchase links within OpenAI’s chatbot.
  • Users must still complete the standard Know Your Customer (KYC) process and exit MoonPay before purchasing cryptocurrencies.
  • MoonPay says AI assistants like ChatGPT are becoming a new distribution channel for crypto services.

MoonPay has brought cryptocurrency purchases directly into ChatGPT, allowing users to create checkout links to purchase digital assets, including Bitcoin, XRP, Solanaand US dollarswithout leaving the OpenAI chatbot.

Friday, MoonPay Fired A dedicated ChatGPT app, allowing users to buy cryptocurrencies directly within OpenAI’s chatbot. MoonPay joins a growing list of cryptocurrency-related apps on ChatGPT, including Kraken, OKX, CryptoAudit, and RealOpen.

While other apps in the ChatGPT store allow users to query blockchain data and prices, the MoonPay app allows users to purchase cryptocurrencies directly — and aims to educate consumers in the process.

“We’ve seen that with commerce and AI, where a lot of people are getting shopping recommendations inside ChatGPT,” said MoonPay Blockchain engineer and product lead Kevin Ariffin. Decryption. “Now people are starting to do financial research within ChatGPT as well, and it was always surprising to me that there wasn’t a place where you could buy crypto within ChatGPT.”

In the app, users can ask ChatGPT about their preferred cryptocurrency and then ask the chatbot to buy a specific amount. ChatGPT will generate a MoonPay payment link that takes the user to the MoonPay website to browse Know your customer (KYC) processing and linking to their wallet.

“It’s like a broker sitting next to you, not making financial recommendations, but educating you on what assets to buy. (It) makes ChatGPT the perfect place for that,” Arifin said. “Right now, this just gives you the purchase link for verification, similar to Shopify, but in the long term we will see ChatGPT or these types of LLMs taking more action rather than just giving you that payment link.”

As Arifin explained, if a user has already gone through KYC to set up their MoonPay account, they won’t have to go through the process again.

“Just log in with your existing MoonPay account,” he said. “It will show that you’re logged in, pay using your last payment method, and then have it delivered to that address.”

ChatGPT is part of a broader push by MoonPay towards AI-based cryptographic tools.

Earlier this month, the company acquired AI trading startup Dawn Labs launched Dawn CLI, a trading co-pilot that turns plain English prompts into automated predictive market strategies. MoonPay also launched recently Moon Agents Carda virtual Mastercard that allows AI customers to spend stablecoins Directly from cryptocurrency wallets at online merchants.

Arifin said the app is designed less for independent trading using AI and more to help everyday consumers learn how cryptocurrencies work through conversation.

“Being able to talk in ChatGPT is a huge eye opener,” he said. “I think that’s what’s missing overall.”

Despite the convenience, Arifin acknowledged that users working only within ChatGPT are actually limited to the OpenAI ecosystem and the interfaces it chooses to expose, which is why he sees emerging AI clients like OpenClaw and Hermes-where Artificial intelligence agents It can run locally and interact more directly with the user’s device, an important next step.

According to Arifin, ChatGPT and other chatbots are a growing entry point for cryptocurrency adoption.

“These applications, whether it’s ChatGPT or Cloude, are the new front door to the Internet,” Ariffin said. “It’s where people don’t just do a Google search to find out something, they do a lot of research to really understand what they’re trying to do.”
