Trump said the Iranian women whose release he requested would not be executed

This is a bit of a strange story.

Yesterday, Trump retweeted a bit about 8 Iranian women he said were scheduled to be executed and asked for their release.

To the Iranian leaders, who will soon enter into negotiations with my representatives: I would be very grateful for the release of these women. I’m sure they will respect the fact that you do this. Please don’t do them any harm! It will be a great start to our negotiations!!! Thank you for your interest in this issue. President Donald J. Trump

And now he writes:

Very good news! I have just been informed that the eight female protesters who were scheduled to be executed tonight in Iran will no longer be killed. Four will be released immediately, and four will be sentenced to one month in prison. I greatly appreciate that Iran and its leaders respected my request, as President of the United States, and ended the planned execution. Thank you for your interest in this issue! President Donald J. Trump

The thing is that it has been reported that the women have never faced any kind of death penalty. The Oslo-based Iranian Human Rights Organization reported yesterday that two of the women had already been released on bail.

Iran also responded to Trump’s post, saying that some women had already been released without naming them. She added that none of them faced the death penalty.

It’s hard to understand what’s going on here, whether someone scammed him on Truth Social or he was trying to put something together to claim a win, some kind of diplomacy aimed at making Iran look merciful or something else.

However, the market sees this as good news and I think this is the right thing to do. If Trump is happy, the market is happy.
