Agriculture, Food and Marine Minister Martin Haydon said he had no advance warning of Michael Healy-Rae’s decision to resign.

“From my point of view, as of today, all the day-to-day activities of managing the forestry sector, horticulture sector and farm safety belong to me.
“As a senior minister, I always have a supervisory role in these departments anyway. It’s just the day-to-day activity that is up to me while we wait for a decision from the government on this vacant position,” he said.
When asked whether the government intended to fill the vacancy, Haydon replied: “That is something the leaders must agree on.”
