Government Ministers today (Saturday 11 April) held a series of “constructive” meetings with representative groups from the transport, agriculture and fishing sectors.
This comes at a time when the government is “close” to finalizing a “large support package” to address the ongoing crisis, according to a statement issued tonight.
Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien and Minister of State Sean Caney are “actively developing plans” for the transport support scheme, with “detailed work now underway”.
Representatives from the Irish Road Transport Association, the Freight Transport Association of Ireland and the Tourism and Transport Board of Ireland attended the meeting with ministers today and expressed their “full support for the proposed measures”.

Agriculture Minister Martin Haydon, along with Ministers of State Timmy Dooley, Noel Grealish and Michael Healy-Rae, met representatives of farm and fisheries organizations at public and bilateral meetings over the past two days.
The Ministers of Agriculture “took into account their concerns as well as suggestions and ideas to alleviate the difficulties faced by all their members.”
The ministers said all meetings “were very constructive.”
Minister Haydon and his senior officials at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine are developing an interim plan Fuel subsidy scheme To provide support to these vital sectors.
“The government recognizes the urgent need to provide solutions to these severely affected sectors,” the statement issued tonight said.
“Ministers intend to finalize the plans as quickly as possible and will announce them soon in addition to the €250 million already allocated to ease the burden on affected sectors.”
